The excitement is building as we have finally made it to
departure day! The twins went to school
for a test they needed to take and Lindsay skipped the day. Traffic was heavy and it took a bit longer
than usual for the trek to Atlanta airport parking. Since Atlanta built the new International
Terminal, there are no long term parking lots there. Not all the parking companies at the domestic
area have bus service to International but we have worked that out beforehand. It is about a 20 minute ride from the
domestic parking to the International Terminal.
We all got TSA Precheck which sped us through security in
record time. We went to have some lunch
since it had been a hectic morning and nobody had eaten. It was nice to sit and relax for awhile. Traveling by yourself or with a friend is
easy compared to traveling with 5 family members and keeping track of
everyone’s “stuff”. More on that later. The flight was long at 8 hours 55 minutes and
uncomfortable, but thankfully smooth and uneventful although there was an
“emotional support animal” sitting next to us.
They need to tighten the restrictions on these as this woman did not
need this dog for emotional reasons…it was purely economic. She said she has traveled with the animal to
Barcelona seven times already. All of us
tried hard to sleep in a variety of unique positions but it is just almost a physical impossibility to sleep on a plane
regardless of how tired you are or what you take to make you go to sleep….unless
of course you can afford the Delta One seats.

Almost there! |
I think they should make the distinction between service animals and therapy animals; allowing those that truly are service-related. But I guess flying could be stressful so maybe that's why they felt the need. Looking forward to next installment.
ReplyDeleteAnd let the adventure begin! It's so great that you were able to take your daughters entire family to Europe.
